The stare may still look maniacal, but Bezos' baby - and his thinking on dot-com success - is very much on a firm footing these days. Of course there will always be knockers and some decisions will always look smarter than others, but make no mistake - Bezos has guided one of the web's most famous entities to where he always said it would go.

Still incredibly influential as a type of company, Bezos is making sure Amazon is a real user of web services to link with third-party sites and suppliers. He will make sure the innovation never stops.
