Though less in the limelight than in recent years, her thinking on combining the PDA with a comms device - "They must be integrated," she recently told silicon.com - is rubbing off on a range of manufacturers and network operators.

Now Palm is splitting - PalmSource will be the entity in more direct competition with Linux, Microsoft and Symbian - Dubinsky's expertise will be called upon more for design excellence.
